The floods in Chennai have wreaked havoc all over the city, displacing homes and claiming lives. The situation is dismal, with the death toll at 269 at the time of writing. The incessant downpour has resulted in Chennai being cut-off from all state and national highways.

However, in this time of peril, a canine companion is playing “rescue ranger”, showing people where the “dry areas” are and helping them traverse water-clogged patches.

My Chennai

“I was getting home early from work today, and this stray dog was following me for like a few hundred yards. That’s when I realized it was walking alongside me to show me where the dry areas were!”, says Fathima Shaw .

She adds: “Every time I stopped, this sweet dog would stop and wait…. I thought I was imagining it at first then I crossed the street and it crossed with me too. It started pacing back and forth when I balked at knee-deep water, came back to me THROUGH THE WATER, and showed me how to traverse it.”

Man’s best friend, isn’t it?
