A CRPF jawan saved a polling officer’s life when he got a heart attack during polling in Srinagar. Reportedly, constable Surinder Kumar was stationed at the polling booth when he noticed that officer Ahsaan-ul-Haq didn’t look in the best of health.

According to a TOI report, the officer was given first aid but he fell unconscious within a minute. Constable Kumar is among the 50 CRPF personnel who are trained by the Red Cross Society to be the ‘first responders’ during a medical emergency. 

Apparently, he tried calling on several emergency numbers but none could offer immediate assistance.

Thanks to his quick thinking, Kumar sought out help from his senior in the battalion, Dr Suneed Khan. After speaking to Kumar for a few minutes, Dr Khan informed him that it is a heart attack that the officer is suffering from.

Reports add that Kumar performed 30 compressions and three mouth-mouth resuscitation as guided by Dr Khan. Dr Khan told TOI,

He responded to the situation intelligently and followed my instruction very diligently.

The officer was taken to Sher-e Kashmir Institute of Medical Science and is now in stable condition.
