In a great honour, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli will be getting a stand named after him at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi, reports The Quint.

With this, he becomes the only cricketer to get the honour while still playing for the country. 

The other two Delhi players to have stands named after them are Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohinder Amarnath, but both of them got the tribute only after they bid adieu to international cricket.

In a statement, DDCA president Rajat Sharma elaborated on the decision and said:

Virat Kohli’s outstanding contribution to world cricket has done DDCA proud. We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record. To cherish these memories, DDCA wanted to dedicate a stand in his name.

He also added that he hopes the ‘Virat Kohli stand’ will inspire kids in future.

Other Delhi players Anjum Chopra and Virender Sehwag have gates after their names, while the Hall of Fame is a tribute to former team captain MAK Pataudi.
