Two Delhi based women were kidnapped and gang raped by five men on Monday, June 1 in Goa. All five men have been arrested, charged with gang rape, kidnapping and robbery.

According to reports, the victims aged 30 and 22 were on their way to Anjuna Beach, when five men posing as police, stopped their cab.

The men — Ajay kumar Khushwa(39), Jeevan Pawar (26), Nadeem Sayyed (28), Travor Joseph (27) and Kamlesh Chaudhary (21) — reportedly took them to an apartment in Khobrawaddo, Calangute where they sexually assaulted them.

They frisked the women’s bags and then took them to the flat where they allegedly raped and beat them.

On June 1, at around 8:45 pm, the five accused, posing as policemen from CID and narcotics cell of the Goa Police, approached the victims. They confined the two women and the taxi driver in two separate rooms at Ivy Retreat, Khobrawaddo, Calangute until June 2 morning. They assaulted them with wooden sticks,” Indian Express quoted, Inspector General, Goa Police, Sunil Garg.

The accused took turns to sexually abuse the victims. They snatched their cellphones and asked the taxi driver to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM. The driver managed to give them the slip and lodged a complaint with the local police station. We then raided the apartment and arrested them,” Garg added.

The accused were connected to a controversial nightclub in Calangute village, which was recently demolished by locals for allegedly hosting a prostitution racket.

According to the police, the victims were not in the house when the police raided the premises. Evidently the accused allowed the women to go on June 2 morning. The police later tracked the victims down and sent them for medical tests.

The men were charged with rape on June 3 after the medical tests of the victims confirmed sexual assault.
