Tucked away quietly in the heart of Uttarakhand is the small district of Pauri Garhwal.
Headqurtered at the town of Pauri, the hill district has suddenly sprung into national focus after recently producing two new Chief Ministers – Trivendra Singh Rawat and Yogi Adityanath for Uttarkhand and UP respectively, both of whom were born here.

But these are not the only two prominent personalities this small district has sprung in its history. Here are some more:

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna of Congress Party (later joined Bharatiya Lok Dal) hailed from Bughani village in Khirshu tehsil near Pauri. He was an eminent freedom fighter in the Indian freedom movement and later became CM of un-divided Uttar Pradesh in 1973.
Major General (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri

Major General (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri of BJP became the CM of Uttarakhand in 2007. He belongs to Margadna village in Pauri.
Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who belongs to Pinani village in the district, became the CM of Uttarakhand in 2009 and served till 2011.
Vijay Bahuguna

Vijay Bahuguna, son of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna also served as CM of Uttarakhand from 2012 to 2014. Like his father, he too belonged from Bughani village near Pauri.
Trivendra Singh Rawat

Trivendra Singh Rawat of BJP hails from Khairasain village in Pauri district. He won the 2017 Assembly Elections and was recently sworn in as the Uttarakhand CM.
Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath, the newly elected CM of UP and the former head priest at the Gorakhnath temple also hailed from Panchur village of Pauri.

General Bipin Rawat

General Bipin Rawat, who is currently the Chief of the Indian Army, also hails from Saina village in Pauri.
With 9 important names from Pauri Garhwal, the district has become one of the most high profile and politically successful districts in Uttarakhand.
