On occasion of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 23, AIADMK leaders allegedly forced a girl to get a tattoo of the word ‘amma’ with the CM’s face, The Indian Express reported.
In a video the young girl is visibly in pain and is seen crying as Jayalalithaa’s face is tattooed on her arm.
After the media reported this story, a human rights organisation, ‘Change India’ based out of Chennai has written to the NHRC seeking action against the party leaders.
The organisation has alleged that the event occurred in the presence of senior AIADMK leaders, including O Panneerselvam.
It has requested the government to frame guidelines so that in the future, children aren’t exploited during political functions, reports IBNLive.
An AIADMK spokesperson speaking to The Indian Express said,
“The girl had later given a statement saying that nobody compelled her to get a tattoo, it was her choice. However, the CM has removed MLA M K Ashok from party posts, suggesting that he should have been a little more careful in organising such events.”
According to reports, more than 1,000 AIADMK supporters and party cadre got Jayalalithaa tattoos on her birthday on February 23.
