Greta Thunberg, the environmental activist who who has been making waves for her powerful speech against world leaders for conveniently ignoring climate change is back in the news. But this time, it’s for refusing to accept an environmental award.
She refused the Nordic Council’s environmental award saying the climate change movement needed people in power to start to ‘listen’ to ‘science’ and not just give out awards.
Greta, who rallied millions to her “Fridays for Future” movement was nominated by both Sweden and Norway for her efforts and she won the organisation’s annual environment prize which she very politely declined.
According to reports, when the announcement was made a representative from the audience informed everyone that she would not accept the award or the prize money of 350,000 Danish kroner (around ₹36,90,741).
She took to Instagram to address her decision in a post where she wrote ‘climate movement does not need any more awards’. Take a look.
