Soon, six metro stations in the national capital are likely to undergo ‘semi-renaming’ in a bid to rake in the extra moolah. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reportedly floated tenders for this purpose, where private firms after bidding will be able to add either a prefix or a suffix to the existing names of the metro stations, reports Hindustan Times

The following six stations have been selected for the re-christening:

  • Pitampura
  • Azadpur
  • Vishwavidyalaya
  • Dwarka Sector 14
  • Pragati Maidan
  • Dwarka Sector 10

“There will not be any change in the name of the station as such. There will only be a prefix or suffix for branding to generate revenue. No changes will be made in announcements of station names or on the maps.” said a DMRC spokesperson speaking to Hindustan Times

“The time period till when the bidder is allowed to prefix the name depends on the station, but it will be more than two years.” said a DMRC official speaking to Hindustan Times.

In February, several metro stations in the National Capital Region were semi-renamed in a similar process, reports The Hindu

  • MG Road station in the Yellow Line – Syska LED MG Road
  • Guru Dronacharya – Indigo Guru Dronacharya
  • Vaishali – Dainik Jagran Vaishali station
  • Noida City Centre station – Wave-Noida City Centre

Sources speaking to DNA had said that the DMRC is likely to earn Rs 2 crore per station through this move.
