If you are a chocolate lover, this news will make you reach for that bar of chocolate which you were trying so hard to resist. We have often wondered about why healthy food is not tasty, and tasty food is not healthy.

But, a recent study gives us the answer that we all craved.

A study published in the journal Appetite found that people who ate chocolate at least once a week performed better at mental skills than those who ate chocolate less often, reported the Independent. So basically eating chocolates regularly will make you brainy!

For the study, 968 people aged between 23 and 98 were measured for dietary intake and cardiovascular risk factors, as well as cognitive function.

After a series of tests designed to measure cognitive function, more frequent chocolate consumption was “significantly associated with better performance on visual-spatial memory and organisation, working memory, scanning and tracking, abstract reasoning, and the mini-mental state examination”.

The researchers also suggested that regular chocolate consumption could help “protect against normal age-related cognitive decline.”

And all this is because of the presence of cocoa flavanols (a subgroup of flavonoids) in chocolate, which are associated with the positive cognitive function.

So, it’s established now. For all those of you with a sweet tooth, it’s time to rejoice!
