India may have lost in the cricket World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand on Wednesday (10th July, 2019) but don’t be disheartened because Indian weightlifters are doing exceptionally well in the Commonwealth Championships that is being held in Apia.

Davinder Kaur and Rakhi Halder won one gold medal each in the senior women’s category on the second day of the Commonwealth Championships on Wednesday by putting on an impressive show.

Kaur lifted a total weight of 184 kg to win in the women’s 59 kg category, while Halder lifted 214 kg in the women’s 64 kg category.

But, that’s not all, India also won five gold medals in the junior and youth category.

On day one, India already won 8 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Mirabai Chanu, former world champion also won a gold medal in the senior women’s 49 kg category after lifting a total weight of 191 kg.

This is a proud moment for India. Way to go!
