A senior doctor in Jaipur was badly beaten by the family members of a patient who died during the treatment at his hospital on Friday, a report in India Today says.
The relatives of the deceased patient thrashed Dr Ajay Bansal, the owner of Bansal Hospital in Jaipur, after 55-year-old Ratan Lal Saini died while undergoing treatment for chest pain. The doctor was left with 46 stitches on his head and a broken nose.
According to the IT report, the doctors at the Bansal Hospital alleged that the family members went on rampage after Saini died. They also said the family members of the deceased attacked Bansal with sharp-edged objects.
The CCTV footage of the incident and pictures of Bansal with his head covered in bandage went viral on social media.
Claiming negligence on the part of Bansal, Saini’s family also lodged an FIR against the doctor. However, Jaipur police has also registered a case against the family members of Saini for physically assaulting the doctor.
The assault on doctor also triggered protests from more than 400 doctors at various hospitals of the city.
According to a report in India.com, worried over the growing violence against doctors by the kins of patients, doctors of nearly 450 private hospitals in the city went on a strike on Sunday.
The doctors asked the state government to provide adequate security measures to the doctors and medical staff to prevent any assault from the family members of the patients who are dissatisfied with the treatment.
Bansal is undergoing treatment at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital, the report added.
