One of the paintings in the magazine allegedly depicts a man and a woman having sex in a movie theater while National Anthem is being played on the screen behind. According to The News Minute the caption reads: “The nationalism of standing up in theater, the nationalism of reading Manusmrithi in streets.”

The screen, moreover, has a picture of national flag. 

According to PTI, the magazine was brought out by Students Federation of India activists as part of the 125-year celebrations of Brennen College at Thalassery, the alma mater of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

RSS’ students’ body Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also expressed objection by demanding action against those behind the magazine.

College Principal Murlidas informed PTI that there was nothing wrong with the magazine and certain drawing when viewed in a different angle had caused the ‘misunderstanding’. 

“If viewed in a narrow minded manner, it causes some misunderstanding. We are trying to convince the students about it,’ he said.

“The picture marks protest against the prevailing order to stand-up during the time of national anthem in movie houses. Govt college Principal is the chief editor of the Magazine. Such a nice culture to follow in a college where students are asked to learn morality and good behavior. Note the name of the magazine; its #Pellet. Definitely there will be something which will be against our Armed Forces in #Kashmir,” (sic) reads a Facebook post by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Kerala unit, as translated by The News Minute.
