Women in India are breaking new barriers every day. In yet another milestone achievement, Lieutenant Shivangi, the first woman pilot of the Indian Navy, is all set to join naval operations at Kochi on 2nd December.

Hailing from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Shivangi was inducted into the Indian Navy as SSC (Pilot) as a part of 27 NOC course in Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. She got formally commissioned in the Indian Navy by Vice Admiral AK Chawla, in June 2018.

According to a report by The Quint, Shivangi will get the authorisation to fly dornier aircrafts after completing her training at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.

This is a proud moment for India as until now, the Navy’s aviation branch had women officers only operating as air traffic control officers and observers in the aircraft responsible for communication and weapons.
