A massive anti-militancy operation has been launched in Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday in the wake of the recent terror attacks. A huge contingent of around 3,000 security personnel from the the Army, CRPF and the J&K police have cordoned off Shopian and nearby Pulwama villages, reports The Hindu.

The security forces conducted house-to-house searches in over dozen villages, including Heaf, Sugan, Chilipora and Malnad.

An NDTV report says that the operation was initiated after a number of videos surfaced recently which showed large groups of heavily-armed terrorists marching in the orchards of Shopian in south Kashmir.

On Wednesday, militants snatched service rifles of five policemen guarding the court complex in the district. A group of ultras had sneaked into the premises of court complex  and overpowered the five policemen on duty. The militants then snatched the SLR rifles of the policemen before leaving the place. No one was injured in the incident.
