Lucknow was looking forward to its first funtional metro but as ‘luck’ would have it, the train stalled between the stations of Mawaiyya and Durgapuri on its debut expedition.
According to NDTV, 100s of passengers, including school children, were stuck in the metro for more than an hour without lights and air conditioning. An official said the problem was a technical issue due to a traction pump, but not much else is known regarding why it happened.
The hapless passengers were finally allowed to exit after a team of officials from the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) arrived and opened an emergency exit at the back of the train.
Let’s hope the next metro run works out better.
