Even as hundreds of people thronged ATMs and banks across the nation to exchange and withdraw money, a bank in Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar on Tuesday had a special customer: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Hiraben.

Hiraben Modi, who is in her late nineties, walked up to a bank to exchange notes on Tuesday. She came escorted by a group of people and entered the bank in a wheelchair. But she then walked to the counter with some assistance and exchanged old notes for new ones.
