Remember the time when Joey Tribbiani of F.R.I.E.N.D.S wore all of Chandler Bing’s clothes? While he wore them to win a silly quarrel with Chandler, James McElvar, the singer of the Scottish boy band Rewind , boarded a flight with 12 layers of clothes. All this to avoid baggage fees.

The flight staff told McElvar that he was allowed to take only one bag on board but he would have to pay an excess charge equivalent of Rs 4435.64 for his second bag or dispose-of the luggage.

Since he did not have much time to decide, he chose to empty his baggage instead of his wallet. He, reportedly , took a reckless decision to wear six t-shirts, four jumpers, two jackets, one pair of shorts, three pairs of jeans, two pairs of jogging bottoms and two hats. There were no surprises when he collapsed mid-flight due to heat and exhaustion. While the young mind of McElvar misjudged it to be a heart attack, three hours later when he was in an ambulance, heat exhaustion was confirmed.

‘I felt it was my only option to put on everything. It was impossible to walk. I could barely get on the plane. I wanted to take them all off as soon as I got to my seat — beside which was a spare seat that I could have sat one of my bags on — but I was told I had to wait until we were up in the air ,” McElvar told MailOnline .

When McElvar started undressing himself on the plane the cabin crew were notified. They offered him an empty row at the back of the plane. He was also given a transparent bin bag in case he felt sick. Later, he became violently sick, however, he was fortunate enough that the plane had an off-duty paramedic who told BBC that he was lucky to be alive. The singer has no memory of the rest of the flight.

As per the tweets of Rewind, McElvar is comparatively in a better condition.

However, People Magazine reported he was still in shock.

Just for kicks, here’s the scene from F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ episode The One Where No One Is Ready. Enjoy!
