It was the number one versus number two in the US Open men’s final, a seismic grand slam title match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the last grand moment of the 2015 slam season.

Djokovic beat Federer 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4 in a match that kept getting delayed by rain in New York.

34-year-old Federer won his last grand slam title at Wimbledon in 2012. Fed and Djok have played each other five times at Flushing, New York before this.

It was the 10th career major for Djokovic but only the second US Open for the 28-year-old Serb.

The 28-year-old Serb had known more frustration than success on the Flushing Meadows hardcourts having previously reached the final five times and lifting the trophy just once in 2011.

It was more grand slam misery for the 34-year-old Swiss who, for the second consecutive grand slam, made to the final only to be denied an 18th title by Djokovic.
