1. Titanic (1997)

Kate flashed Leo to make him more comfortable during the famous nude drawing scene.

While filming the iconic drawing scene in the movie Titanic, both Leo and Kate felt a little uncomfortable. In order to break the ice, Kate simply flashed Leo, they both laughed about the whole thing, and proceeded to shoot one of the most famous films of all time.

2. Swordfish (2001)

Halle Berry only agreed to do a topless scene in the movie after getting an extra $500k.

In this movie that also starred John Travolta and Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry has a topless scene while sunbathing. Apparently, she only agreed to do it after being offered an extra $500,000. Now that’s easy money.

3. American Gigolo (1980)

Richard Gere actually suggested including a nude scene himself, even though it wasn’t in the script.

This movie is best remembered for Richard Gere doing a full frontal nudity scene. Strangely enough though, it wasn’t actually written in the script, but suggested by Richard himself, who played a male prostitute in the film.

“If I recall, the nudity wasn’t in the script,” Gere told Entertainment Weekly. “It was just in the natural process of making the movie.”

4. Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)

Dakota Johnson said shooting the sex scenes was a sweaty, uncomfortable and emotionally taxing process.

According to Dakota Johnson, filming sex scenes in movies sounds like a whole lot of uncomfortable work, so you always have to keep your sense of humour about things.

“Filming a sex scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment. It’s really hot – not in a steamy, sexual way. It’s just sweaty and not very comfortable. On top of that, my hands and legs were tied, I was blindfolded and I was being hit with this bizarre tool. It was emotionally taxing.”

5. Gone Girl (2014)

Rosamund Pike and Neil Harris had to rehearse every little detail including the number of thrusts. 

Neil Patrick Harris had some pretty strange things to say about that terrifying sex scene. “We had to rehearse the Gone Girl sex scene, like every inch of it. ‘Then you put your mouth on his dick here and then this number of thrusts and then you ejaculate’.”

Rosamund Pike had her own issues with the scene. “You’re alone with a man who’s not your husband who also has a husband. He’s in his underwear, you’re in your underwear, and you’re sort of dry humping on a bed.” Sounds like fun.

6. Superbad (2007)

Christopher Plasse’s mother had to be present during his sex scene as he was underage.

This movie is freaking hilarious. McLovin, played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, was only 17 while filming this movie. Legal rules therefore meant that his mother actually had to be present during the filming of his (extremely weird) sex scene.

“Stupid law. I was just sitting there with my bors on, waiting for my mom to drive down to the set. She got there, and I had fake sexual intercourse in front of her.”

7. American Pie (1999)

They used a sausage on a pencil to replicate an erection in one scene.

To replicate an erection on Jason Biggs for this iconic teen comedy, the crew went to some pretty crazy lengths. They cooked a sausage, stuck it on a pencil, wrapped it in foil and then put it between his legs.

8. Wild Things (1998)

The actors prepared to film a threesome by getting drunk on tequila.

Denise Richards, Matt Dillon and Neve Campbell had to shoot a threesome for this titillatingly R-rated film. To get ready and feel less nervous about the scene, they all got drunk on tequila first. This just proves tequila guarantees a really good time, at least up until the moment -SPOILER ALERT- you get double crossed and murdered by two scheming women.

9. The Brown Bunny (2003)

This movie is rumoured to have used a ‘prosthetic’ penis during a fellatio scene.

The Brown Bunny is a film that became infamous for 2 reasons – the first was because the director Vincent Gallo said he wanted critic Roger Ebert to get cancer, and the second was that graphic fellatio scene starring Vincent and Chloe Sevigny. Both have claimed that the scene was authentic, and shot by robot cameras while they were alone in a room. However, people have also claimed that Vincent actually used a prosthetic penis in the shot!

10. Far and Away (1992)

Tom Cruise took off his underwear in one scene so as to get a genuine reaction from Nicole Kidman.

Director Ron Howard really pulled a fast one in this movie. Apparently, he wasn’t happy with Nicole Kidman’s facial reaction during the shooting of the scene where her character lifts the bowl covering Joseph’s (her husband Tom Cruise’s) crotch. Without telling Kidman, he asked Cruise to remove his underwear. Needless to say, he got a pretty genuine reaction! I just can’t tell if it’s happiness or disappointment.

11. A History of Violence (2005)

Maria Bello got bruises after filming a particularly aggressive sex scene in this movie.

This movie starring Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello involved a very aggressive sex scene on a staircase. The scene actually got quite out of hand, and Maria ended up getting quite a few bruises on her back, which had to be covered with makeup.

12. No Strings Attached (2011)

Ashton Kutcher would apologise at the start of a sex scene in case he got an erection.

This movie starred Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. According to Kutcher, he had a bit of a hard time keeping his… excitement in check (We’re talking about his boner). So he’d just start by apologising and making things relaxed for everyone.

“I just start by apologizing … I think somebody told me, and I’m not sure who the actor was. I think it was Sir Laurence Olivier. I think he said something to the effect of, “I apologize if I get aroused and I apologize if I do not get aroused.” Classic Sir Laurence!

13. A Dangerous Method (2011)

Keira Knightley got drunk before shooting a sex scene in order to calm her nerves.

This movie starred Keira Knightley, Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender and followed the stories of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. Apparently, Keira felt pretty uncomfortable doing the sex scenes, and got just a tiny bit drunk beforehand.

“I did a couple of shots of vodka — definitely — beforehand, and then a couple of glasses of champagne as a celebration of never having to do that again!”

14. Gandu (2010)

The actors had to undergo practise in Boal Techniques to prepare for their nude scenes.

Gandu was a controversial Indian film in Bengali directed by the notorious Q. It featured a lot of sex and a graphic scene showing actress Rii fellating actor Anubrata Basu. They had to undergo Boal Techniques to prepare for their nude scenes.

“At 21, I see no reason why I should have any inhibitions about shooting some scenes if the script needs it. I am no porn star and I don’t think me doing this movie or ‘Gandu’ can brand me in a negative fashion.”
