A freak train accident took away their 18-year-old son in 2011.

But this Mumbai couple didn’t let that grief completely break them. After a year of mourning, they decided to do something to honour their lost son in an extraordinary way.

It was then that Damayanti and her husband Pradeep Tanna opened a trust in their son’s name and got a new-found purpose in life.

The Tanna couple started out with providing free tiffin service to the needy. And it’s been almost five years that they have been providing free healthy food to senior citizens and have never skipped a day of their service.

”We decided to serve free dabbas (lunch boxes) to elderly people, who have been abandoned by their children or have lost their children or dear ones like us or are staying alone,” Damayanti Tanna told ANI.

In the initial days, the couple started out by preparing food in their small kitchen for about 30 people with the help they received from their friends and relatives.

But now they provide lunch to about 110 senior citizens in Mumbai every day with the help of a staff of seven people. They have also partnered with famous dabbawalas of Mumbai to make sure the tiffins reach people on time.

Not just that, the trust also supplies clothes and books to the needy children and medicines to elderly people. And a lot more.

Pradeep Tanna says that the trust never differentiates between class, creed or religion.

In times when apathy and indifference have consumed us, such people certainly give us hope. You can know more about them and do your bit by visiting this website.
