Bollywood actor Salman Khan was proven guilty of all charges against him in the 2002 hit-and-run case by Judge DW Deshpande at a Mumbai Sessions court on Wednesday.
The actor has been charged with culpable homicide and sentenced to 5 years of jail term under section 304(2) of the Indian Penal Code .
On Wednesday morning Salman’s sister Arpita Khan tweeted saying,
Today is a big day for us & we know we are not alone.Thank you for your Dua’s , love & support always. God bless !— Arpita Khan Sharma (@khanarpita) May 6, 2015
Salman reportedly listened to the verdict with tears in his eyes while his brother Sohail Khan left the court premises disappointed.
“I will pray for a lesser sentence. I have full sympathy with him,” said Hema Malini as the verdict was made public.
“Heart goes out to Salman,” said Sanjay Dutt’s sister Priya Dutt . Priya also said that she completely understands what mental condition Salman is going through.
Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi said, “I am really feeling very bad that my colleague Salman has been convicted. I think he still has a scope to appeal it to the higher courts. I think definitely he will have some considerations. He has got chance to take bail, meanwhile he can do justice to his films which have been committed.”
Raj Babbar , who has shared screen with Salman in “Bodyguard”, said, “It is a relief to those who were killed during the incident… Salman and his family are hurt. We respect the court’s verdict.”

In Salman’s conviction case, justice would mean, commensurate compensation to the victim by accused+reasonable imprisonment for the accused..— Kiran Bedi (@thekiranbedi) May 6, 2015
Giving “exemplary” punishment to set an example for others is not fair on Salman. Whatever the sentence is, it has to be just #SalmanVerdict— raghu ram (@tweetfromRaghu) May 6, 2015
It hurts when your own are punished, even if they are in the wrong. We love you and are standing by you— Alia Bhatt (@aliaa08) May 6, 2015
