In a horrific act, two 16-year-old boys killed a three-year-old girl for a ransom of Rs 1 crore in South Mumbai.
According to The Times of India, Taranum Fatema, the daughter of a scrap dealer went missing from her home near Nagpada in Mumbai on December 5. Her body was found wrapped in polythene bags, hidden near a water tank on a terrace, 30 feet from her house on Saturday.
She was kidnapped by Aslam when she came to his house to play. The duo was under the impression that since Taranum’s father owned a car, he was rich. Aslam told police that he strangled her and hid her in the house in order to take money from her father. While Aslam along with his friend Javed used chloroform to drive the girl out of her consciousness, her nose started bleeding after a few hours.
Aslam, 16, son of an interior decorator was a neighbor of Taranum.
They panicked at the sight of blood. Aslam grabbed a phone charger and strangled her on the same day.
The duo then made multiple calls to her father, Mumtaz Khan asking for a ransom of Rs 1 crore. Aslam actively helped the police during the probe, however, a tip-off about his involvement in the case made the police doubt him.
The police then asked the father to negotiate the ransom so that the police could trace the caller. While the police recognized that it a was a teenager voice on the other side, the kidnapper agreed for Rs 28 lakh and asked them to leave the money in a bag at the Kalwa railway track.
Meanwhile, Aslam while aiding the police earlier had named 5 suspects. The police then rushed to nab the two boys who had come to pick up the money bag from the railway tracks. While interrogation wasn’t successful but a tip-off regarding Javed helped connect the dots. When both of them were brought for a confrontation, Aslam confessed his crime and revealed the location of the body.
The three-year-old, Taranum, would have turned four on December 21.
