Having a grievance against school authorities is quite common among students. But here is a group of girl school students from Odisha who walked 30 km to register their complaint to the district collector.

The incident happened in Mayurganj district of Odisha where a group of 73 girl students of Pakatia Government Girls’ High School walked 30 kilometres on Thursday, January 28 to meet the district collector Rajesh Pravakar Patil at Baripada to convey their grievance against the newly appointed matron of the hostel.

The students  started their journey in the evening and reached the collector’s residence around midnight. When the incident came to the light of police officials, they offered them transport facility. The students, however, did not take any help and completed the whole journey on foot.

According to a report by ANI News, the students had complained against the alleged misbehaviour of the hostel authorities. They also accused the authorities of administrative negligence which had been affecting their studies.

After listening to their complaints, the district collector assured necessary action and a special inquiry has been ordered into the matter. The students were later dropped at their hostel under the directions of the district collector. The school is governed by education department of the state government but the hostel is under the SC/ST welfare department.
