With 99 votes in favour and 84 in against, the triple talaq bill was passed and further needs the final stamp from the President to become a law.
Amid heated debates, arguments and walkouts by JD(U) and AIADMK party members, the Rajya Sabha finally passed the bill that criminalises triple talaq, reports News18.

This bill makes it illegal for a Muslim man to seek divorce using instant triple talaq and will criminalise the act for up to 3 years.
Quoting it was not about politics, Law Minister Ravi Shankar said:
This issue should not be seen through a political prism or votebank politics. This is a question of humanity. This is for ensuring justice to women, dignity and empowerment to women and to ensure gender dignity and equality
The bill follows a Supreme Court verdict of 2017 declaring instant triple talaq as unconstitutional.
