Three days after an e-rickshaw driver was brutally killed outside GTB Nagar metro station for objecting against public urination, two students from Delhi University's Kirori Mal College have been detained.
According to eye-witnesses' accounts, two of the accused who bought alcohol from a liquor shop were dropped at the same college. More than 50 people have been questioned and several, including students and e-rickshaw drivers, reports Times of India.
However, police officials have not confirmed anything and say that the investigation is still under process.
"We are still investigating the case and as of now there are no new developments. It would be unfair to comment anything right now," Additional DCP North told ScoopWhoop News.
The 32-year-old Ravinder Kumar was brutally beaten by 15-20 people after he objected against them urinating in the public on Saturday evening. He later died on his way to the hospital.
The CCTV footage:
Meanwhile, Delhi government on Tuesday announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for Ravinder's family. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who announced the compensation for Ravinder’s kin, said the amount will be provided from the LG-CM’s relief fund.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced ex-gratia of Rs.1 lakh to next of kin of E-rickshaw driver. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Monday visited his home and offered a sum of Rs 50,000 from his personal capacity as compensation.
