I don’t want to be pessimistic and tell you there’s nothing more to look forward to, but I think we have peaked. If you love sports, there is nothing that can top what happened today.

A Wimbledon final that went to the 5th damn set and a World Cup final that went to a super over.

Switching from laptop to television and back to the laptop, we might have lost some years of our lives honestly (no worries about the nails and the hair).

However, it was all worth it.

As lovers of sports, this is what we live for.

Rooting for New Zealand and Roger Federer, you can say the results were not what I wanted them to look like.

But honestly, I don’t care at this point.

Federer took the match to the 5th set, making it the LONGEST Wimbledon match ever played. Even longer than the final of 2008. He ultimately lost to Novak Djokovic 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-6(4), 4-6, 13-12(3), but does that even matter at this point?

The geeks will say ‘yes, a winner is a winner and a loser is a loser’, but I am a romantic, here, and I can’t stop marvelling at the beauty of what these two just brought to the ethereal Centre Court.

Moving on to the Cricket World Cup, the scenes were pretty intense there, too. By ‘pretty intense’, I mean super-over intense.

Ultimately, it was England who won the match. It is their first World Cup win ever and we can only be happy for their fans and followers who have been waiting for this moment for decades.

Our hearts, however, go out to the team of ‘gentlemen’ who will find it hard to get over this defeat.

You and I will still find sleep (well, maybe not tonight), but for the New Zealand team, it will be a long process. It will take them some time to get over the fact that they were so close to laying their hands on the World Cup trophy for the first time but destiny had other plans.

The final scorecard looked like this, though, and they should go back with the pride of knowing that they tried their best. Ultimately, it is the only thing to take pride in, anyway.

There is a lot of contemplating to do, and you can rest assured that we will do that for you.

But tonight, we can just be happy knowing that we watched possibly the best sports of our lives and there is no bigger joy than that.

*Also, boss, does this work as an indicator that I will be late tomorrow?*
