So, here’s the annual salary of an American president.
But newly elected Donald Trump won’t take even $1 of it.
Nah. Nope. Nil. Nada.
It’s not a big deal for him, you know. He’s a billionaire and all.
So, this is what he said in September 2015, at an event in New Hampshire:
“The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, okay? That’s not a big deal for me.”
Within this week, he was questioned about the same in a Twitter Q&A session, to which he replied –
As far as the salary is concerned — I won’t take even one dollar. I am totally giving up my salary if I become president.
Unfortunately, now that the business mogul is president-elect, his resolution is being brought into the limelight.
If he really goes ahead and refuses to accept the gigantic sum, he’ll be the third American president in history to do so. Both Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy were super rich as well and donated their entire salaries to charity.
Wonder what Trump will do with those big, fat monthly pay checks.
He hasn’t commented on the matter since he won the election though. Let’s see if he sticks to his decision. People are definitely expecting him to keep his promise and say no to the money.
Not that it would make much of a difference to the business mogul.
FYI, according to Forbes, Trump’s estimated net worth is close to $3.7 billion. Trump claims it is “in excess of £7.6 billion”.
But then again, this won’t be the first time he lied!
He also said that if elected, he’d definitely cast aside concerns for his empire and focus on politics instead.
Look, I would cut all ties…. I wouldn’t care about it,” Trump told Dickerson. “My kids will run it. I wouldn’t want to expand very much. It wouldn’t matter to me. I have a chance at making America great again; that’s the whole focus
he told John Dickerson last year.
I just don’t get it. The guy shunned the presidential salary but won’t pay his taxes. That means he definitely wants the moolah. Which is why this is confusing and weird.
Anyhow, he’s too cool for the money, kids. I’ll take it, Mr. President.
