7 years after she played her last competitive match at the US Open, former singles and doubles number 1 Kim Clijsters will be making a comeback to professional tennis in 2020.

She will compete in professional tours from the coming session, which is amazing for many reasons but especially because she will be 37-years-old in June next year.

Clijsters is considered to be one of the greatest tennis players and has won 6 Grand Slam – 4 singles 2 doubles.

She made her WTA debut in 1999 at the age of 15.

Speaking about her return, WTA Chairman and CEO Steve Simon said:

Kim Clijsters ranks among the greats of the game and her return to the Tour is exciting news for the WTA family and tennis fans around the world. Driven by her love for the sport, this wonderful champion continues to inspire women and men in all walks of life – and she only adds to the compelling wealth of talent in women’s tennis. I wish Kim all the best in this next chapter of her playing career.

A mother of 3, Clijsters has been the most successful at the US Open where she has won 3 times. What great news this is!
