Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was one of the biggest match-winners for India. The opener is popular for his crucial knocks in India’s win in both the 2007 World T20 & 2011 ODI World Cup finals, but now the southpaw is also winning hearts off the pitch.
The Delhi cricketer through his charitable organisation, Gautam Gambhir foundation, on Monday, launched a new initiative ‘Ek Asha’ – a free community kitchen to serve free meals to the poor.
Announcing the launch of the daily kitchen, Gambhir wrote on Twitter that the initiative is nothing short of winning the World Cup or IPL.

This is not the first incident of Gambhir trying to give something back to the society. The veteran cricketer – who has been quite vocal about his support for the Indian army – had pledged in April to bear full expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel martyred in an ambush by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s south Sukma area.
