It’s a widely accepted notion that Canadians are well mannered and going by their only Grand Slam winner’s behaviour, that appears to be true.
19-year-old Bianca Andreescu became the first person of Canadian-origin to win a Grand Slam title in the history of tennis, but that didn’t mean that she’d stop being polite.
Pure bliss 😍

Defeating legend Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 in the most special match of her life, Bianca apologised to the crowd for registering a win over their home-athlete.
In the after-match interview, Bianca said:
I know you guys wanted Serena to win, so I’m so sorry.
“I’m so sorry” – @Bandreescu_ 😂🇨🇦

The clip of her saying those words, soon started trending on Twitter, with people appreciating her humility after executing such a big upset.
Could not be more proud to be Canadian right now. The winner of the #USOpen2019 is the daughter of immigrants. She humble, kind and hard working. And “sorry”. Canadian through and through @Bandreescu_ is all of us. #SheTheNorth 🇨🇦

“Definitely the crowd. I’m sorry,” Bianca Andreescu says.
Canadian apology. Amazing. #USOpen
Did @Bandreescu_ just say “sorry” to the crowd immediately after beating hometown favourite Serena Williams at the US Open? Arguably the most Canadian response ever. #SheTheNorth 🇨🇦

Canadians like to apologize. @Bandreescu_ in a non-sarcastic address to @usopen fans:“I know you guys wanted Serena to win. So I’m sorry.” 🇨🇦 pic.twitter.com/j6rR2HkGIG

A Canadian just won the #USOpen2019 and said she was sorry! @Bandreescu_ just apologized to the crowd for beating @serenawilliams and disappointing them. I love her so much #OhCanada

Last year, Naomi Osaka had also apologised to the crowd after defeating Serena Williams in a controversial final. “sorry it had to end like this,” she had said.
This year, in another heartwarming gesture, Osaka requested her competitor Cori Gauff to join her for the after-match interview to honour people who had come to support the 15-year-old.
THIS EXCHANGE IS EVERYTHING. Getting Coco Gauff to do the on court interview shows the class and grace of Naomi Osaka. #USOpen #USOpenTennis 🎾 pic.twitter.com/mCHiMb4V9T
