Both the teams have come a long way since then but and this time when they face each other, both the teams have a lot on the line. 

1. Group B match, ICC World Cup, 2007

Bangladesh won by 5 wickets.

India went into this World Cup as one of the favourites. Small boundaries and flat tracks; it was almost as if India were playing at home. 

But so was Bangladesh. 

Bowling first, a young Mashrafe Mortaza caused doubt in the Indian dressing room as he dismissed Sehwag and Utthappa in the space of a few overs. Abdur Razzaq then dismissed Sachin to start the panic amongst Indian audiences. 

And even though Ganguly and Yuvraj managed to stitch some sort of a partnership, the former’s excruciatingly slow innings meant that India never quite managed to gain any momentum and was all out for 191. 

Chasing the relatively small total, Bangladesh got off to a flier as Tamim Iqbal tore into the Indian attack with 51 off 53 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan then came together and scored half-centuries to get Bangladesh to make sure Bangladesh got over the line. 

2. Group B match, ICC World Cup, 2011

India won by 87 runs. 

Before this game, Sehwag had publicly proclaimed that this would be India’s revenge for the 2007 defeat that saw the Men in Blue crash out of the World Cup in the very first round. 

And he certainly played like it. After hitting a boundary off the very first ball of the World Cup, Sehwag smashed his way to 175 off 140 balls with 14 fours and 5 huge sixes. 

India piled 370 on the board and even though the Bangladeshi batsmen showed spirit, they could only manage to get 283 in 50 overs. 

3. Quarter-final, ICC World Cup, 2015

India won by 109 runs. 

India walked into this World Cup as the defending champions and they played like it. The team had been in Australia playing Test matches and easily looked at home. 

So when Bangladesh came knocking at the door in the quarter-final, the Indians opened it with the entire cavalry bursting through. Rohit Sharma bludgeoned his way to a century and India set a target of 303 for Bangladesh to chase on a seaming pitch at the MCG. 

Bangladesh, in return, never looked like they were in the game. Umesh Yadav scalped away 4 important wickets as the Bangladeshis were dismissed for 193 runs. 

As India takes on Bangladesh again, the Men in Blue must win this to secure a place in the semi-finals. Bangladesh, meanwhile, needs to defeat India in order to stay alive in the tournament.
