Two and a half months into the Indian Super League’s second edition and things are brimming with assiduous intent as FC Goa play hosts to Chennaiyin FC in the final, that would be contested on Sunday, 20th December.
Here’s a head-to-head comparison of both the teams in the competition.

We did a SWOT analysis to determine which side might get the better of the other.
FC Goa

Strengths:
FC Goa, comprising of stalwarts have experience on their side, with Brazil legend and World Cup winner Zico, calling the shots. They are the league’s highest scorers with 32 strikes this season.
The home advantage is another thing to look out for.

Weaknesses:
While on the flipside, they lack the youthful exuberance that their rivals exhibit.
Opportunities:
They have an amazing mentor in the form of ex-Inter Milan defender Lucio whose way of dictating the style of play is sure to threaten Chennaiyin. FC Goa also has a strong bench that could prove to be the turning point, later on in the game.

Threats:
Chennaiyin has been unbeaten in the last 4 games that they’ve played and they walk into the final with great momentum and a slight edge over their rivals.
Players to watch out for:
Lucio, Leo Moura

Chennaiyin FC

Strengths:
They boast a team of match winners! Stellar performances by ISL top-scorer Stiven Mendonza (12 goals), make them the favourites to win the competition.
They also have the meanest defence this season and have so far only leaked 17 goals.

Weaknesses:
Their relatively young side could fall prey to the opposition which boasts of experienced players.
Opportunities:
Marco Materazzi’s focus on a “defence” oriented approach could challenge FC Goa’s movement in the final third. The veteran Italian with a diamond-formation could hold Goa’s surge forward.

Threats:
There is a bright chance that Zico might opt for an “all-out-attack” plan, which, added to the crowd support may succour their chances to capture the trophy.
Players to watch out for:
Stiven Mendoza, Jeje Lalpekhlua
