For those of you who didn’t know this, the Cricket World Cup for the Blind, 2014 was recently held in Cape Town, South Africa and guess what?
The Indian team won the title and they defeated arch-rivals and defending champions, Pakistan.
India won the toss and elected to field.
Pakistan scored 389 runs in the allotted 40 overs, owing to a century by Mohammad Jamil and a 43-ball 75 by middle order batsman, Mohammad Akram. India’s Amol Dattatray Karche took 2 wickets for 71 runs. India got off to a poor start as they lost their first 2 wickets before their score reached even 50. Thankfully, a 3rd-wicket stand of 78 between Deepak and Rao stabilized the innings. Then India lost 2 more wickets and it seemed that Pakistan would win the tournament for the third time. But a quickfire 38-ball 89 by Prakasha Jayaramaiah, which included 11 fours and a six, helped India fight back. He was supported on the other end by Ketanbhai Babughai Patel (76) and Ajay Reddy (74*).
The match was a thrilling one as India managed to score 390 runs with only 2 balls to spare.
The other teams who participated in the tournament were Sri Lanka, Australia, Bangladesh, England and hosts South Africa. Pakistan beat England in the semi-finals while India ousted Sri Lanka.
