Union minister Ramdas Athawale has accused India skipper Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh of fixing the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan.

Athawale, who serves as Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment in the Narendra Modi government also demanded for an inquiry into the match.

“Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh had scored runs against all the teams. How did they fail against Pakistan?”

“India had defeated Pakistan in the earlier (league stage) match. How can such a strong team lose to its arch-rivals Pakistan in the final by 180 runs? There should be an inquiry into this,” said the minister.

India succumbed to an embarrassing 180 runs loss at the hands of Pakistan in the final at The Oval.

Batting first, Pakistan managed to put up 338 runs on the board in the final, thanks to a scintillating century from Fakhar Zaman – who survived a big scare when he was on 3 as Jasprit Bumrah overstepped. In reply, India’s reliable top order was washed away by Mohammad Amir.

The Kohli-led side thrashed their arch-rivals by 124 runs in the group match of the event.
