India on Tuesday woke up to Supreme Court's decision of striking down the controversial Triple Talaq practice until a new legislation is framed.
"This is a sensitive case where sentiments are involved. We are directing the Union of India to consider appropriate legislation in this regard," Justice J.S. Khehar said while announcing a six-month suspension on the practice of the divorce law.
However, it did not take long for Twitter to break into utter chaos as soon as the verdict was announced as many assumed that the SC has issued a permanent ban on the practice. Slowly, clarity dawned as it emerged that the Supreme Court held Triple Talaq unconstitutional and struck it down by 3:2 majority.
Here's how Twitter reacted to the news:

'Triple Talaq is not in the Quran'--- is it the reason for it to go? There're many injustices & inequalities in the Quran. Should they stay?— taslima nasreen (@taslimanasreen) August 22, 2017

Good part: Now we'll know which political parties either want OR are too scared to oppose #TripleTalaq. Money where mouth is.— Shiv Aroor (@ShivAroor) August 22, 2017
It shouldn't matter whether #TripleTalaq is Islamic or un-Islamic, has blessing of Quran or not. It is inhuman and unjust. It has to go— Abhijit Majumder (@abhijitmajumder) August 22, 2017
Basically SC is asking govt to do its job. It wont let GOI fire from its shoulder, but if GOI fires, SC won't stand in way #TripleTalaq— sushant sareen (@sushantsareen) August 22, 2017
Huge opportunity for Govt now not only to ban #TripleTalaq after SC enabling, but also to bring whole sale Uniform Civil Code in one law.— Ishkaran S. Bhandari (@Ish_Bhandari) August 22, 2017
I appeal to all political parties to join hands and bring legislation to ban #TripleTalaq forever.— Rajat Sharma (@RajatSharmaLive) August 22, 2017
1000 years of evil practise of #TripleTalaq ended by Supreme Courr by a stroke of pen. This is power of Indian democracy and rule of law— Monika Arora (@advmonikaarora) August 22, 2017
