While atypical depression makes an individual emotionally reactive, people suffering from melancholic depression have trouble sleeping while drowning in a pool of guilt trips.

The treatment requires proper diagnosis along with the identification of other causes of their symptoms. 

A person suffering such a disorder might show three, or four out of the five symptoms that could last for a week, or two. 

The diagnosis depends on having any two of the following symptoms: sleep disorder, fatigue, low self-esteem, low appetite or overeating, distraction, indecisiveness and hopelessness.

It makes women extremely sensitive to hormonal changes during their period cycle. 

Bipolar depression generally worsens if not treated; but, it is said to be countered by mood stabilizers, antipsychotic medicines, and verbal therapy.

Children suffering from this disorder struggle with regulating their emotions. 

The onset is between one week to one month of childbirth. The symptoms may include extreme sadness, low energy, anxiety, crying episodes, irritability, and changes in sleeping or eating patterns.

Along with a change in mood and low energy, the person suffering may overeat, oversleep, crave carbs, gain weight, or withdraw from social interaction.

Symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and loss of interest in pleasurable activities show shortly after taking, or abusing a substance, or during withdrawal.

Symptoms of psychosis typically include hallucinations and delusions. 

Depression is said to be one of the most common complications resulting from a chronic illness and is said to affect one-third patients.
