Remember the movie “Children of Men” where the human race fails to reproduce for eighteen years and is on the verge of extinction? That is what is going to happen to this planet, not very far from today.

The Theory Of Demographic Transition discusses the concept that people will opt to not have children at all as time goes by as a result of which the average age of the population will increase and lesser people will indulge in romantic relationships.

In fact, already, people’s income is increasing and they are opting to have fewer children.

According to this study, by 2076, children will be a rarity.

The Theory of Demographic Transition breaks this down into five stages which mainly talks about birth and death rates, drops in death rates due to increased food supply and better sanitation and the drop in birth rates as people become aware of contraception, there is an increase in income and mass urbanization. As the existing population tends to create an economic burden on the working and earning population.

For instance, in Japan, very few people are being born that the population is not only getting smaller but also getting older. Romantic relationships have become scarce and people aren’t having enough sex or making as many babies. Both, Taiwan and South Korea are moving towards the same direction with fertility rates lower than ever.

The thought that this is what our world will eventually come to, is quite frightening and intriguing at the same time.
