Turns out, in rare cases, it is possible to get pregnant from anal sex – as was demonstrated in the case of a woman from Atlantic City, USA, Vagabomb reported.

This woman, understandably, was quite thoroughly confused when she discovered she was pregnant despite not having had any vaginal sex. Dr Brian Steixner, a urologist in Atlantic City, explains that this can be caused by a rare condition that some women are born with.

It’s called cloacal malformation and causes a woman’s bladder, vagina, and rectum to not fully develop into separately functional parts of the body.

It makes the intestinal, reproductive and urinary tracts lead out the same opening – the anus.

“We knew about her condition, and we had followed her for a decade. After doing a whole bunch of X-rays, we determined that she got pregnant from having anal sex.”

The woman was told that the condition could be fixed through surgery, but due to a sub par procedure, the deformity wasn’t fixed and it connected her uterus to her rectum. This caused her a number of problems including where she bled from when her time of the month came around.

And the struggle didn’t end there. Once she was pregnant, a team of doctors deliberated on the question of how childbirth would take place.

“Was she going to have to poop the baby out? I thought that would be hilarious, but ultimately, the OBGYNs couldn’t figure out a way to effectively deliver the baby through the rectum safely. So, she had a C-section.”
