According to a report by NDTV, the Defence Ministry said women, who were earlier inducted for short service commission (SSC), will get permanent commission in the armed forces.

Indian Army has made a commendable move by allowing its women officers permanent commission in 10 branches.

Till now women officers were allowed permanent commission only in two branches, Judge Advocate General (JAG) and Army Education Corps. 

Earlier, the same was approved for women in the Air Force, where all branches including fighter pilots are now open for women officers.

The Defence Ministry stated:

SSC women officers will give their option for permanent commission before completion of four years of Commissioned Service… They will be considered for grant of permanent commission based on suitability, merit, etc., and will be employed in various staff appointment.
