Learning is important. It’s also kinda tough. And let’s face it, a little boring too. But thankfully, we were pretty innovative as kids. As proved brilliantly by the fun acronyms and mnemonics we used to make to remember those evil formulas and periodic tables.
Just like these ones right here. Check ’em out and let the nostalgia roll in.
1. Who said pizzas were unhealthy? They helped us memorize the solar system.
This was used to remember the planetary alignment of the solar system in the correct sequence namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
2. Perhaps the only thing that could demystify mathematics for us.
One of the best known mnemonics out there, BODMAS was our life saviour when we wanted to know the correct sequence of solving a mathematical equation.

3. This poetic way of remembering how many days in a month.
4. Pandit Badri Prasad to the rescue.
Remembering the sin, cos and tan combination was never an easy task. That’s when ‘Pandit Badri Prasad’ came to help. PBP/HHB.
Sin = Perpendicular (P) / Hypotenuse (H)
Cos = Base (B) /Hypotenuse (H)
Tan = Perpendicular (P) /Base (B)
5. Flexing those triceps for a good cause.
Ever had trouble remembering the atmospheric layers? Well, the ‘strong man’ was always there to make the layers of the atmosphere sound fun. Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere and Exosphere.
6. We shall forever be indebted to King Henry.
King Henry might’ve died but he died for a good cause. He died helping us remember the metric system kilo, hecto, deca, base, deci, centi and milli.
7. One more reason to love those penguins.
Agreed. It sounds kinda dirty. But no other mnemonic could’ve helped us remember the series of alkalis namely Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane, Pentane and Hexane with equal ease.
8. I C what you did there.
Another really famous mnemonic, this came in handy whenever we wanted to distinguish between ‘ie’ and ‘ei’.
9. Wish my dad was like that!
While the line might sound a little funny, it used to super effective when we wanted to remember group II periodic table comprising of elements Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Rz.
10. Thank God King Philip loved spaghetti.
King Philip served a much greater purpose than just coming over for some awesome spaghetti.
The line helped us remember the taxonomy order of kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species with super ease.
