Want the secret to a happy relationship? Then kid around, I kid you not. Studies say, venting out in the form of roasting and joking around with your partner leads to a happier, long lasting relationship.

According to psychologists from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) in a study recently published in the ‘Journal of Research in Personality’.

“People who are afraid of being laughed at, on the other hand, are often less happy in their relationship. This also affects their partner and their sexuality.”

Dr. Gil Greengross of the University of New Mexico explains that,

“A sense of humor makes you more attractive.”

To prove this further, we have an example of Comedy Central Roasts where the participants roast each other to getting together and roasting the guest of honour. And the only motive is to make clear that these insults are not intended to burn bridges but playfully burn (or roast) them as their nature is love.

Their motto,

“We only roast the ones we love.”

A research from Appalachian State University says that your sarcasm now has the perfect place, in your partners face. In a face off.

The meaner you are, the more intense your love, the happier you’ll be together. This was studied further and it was concluded that, “The degree of the strength can also be assessed by the degree of insults willing to be tolerated.”

According to a study, laughing with your partner not only lightens the mood and eases you up, but also releases you of stress, builds self esteem and is a great way for both the parties to accept and appreciate their unique quirks.

Psychology Today says, “Insults can be spoken in two primary manners: seriously and in jest. In the former case, harm is intended. Despite our best intentions, ill-phrased or poorly-timed jokes can do harm in much the same way that a serious insult can.”

Do remember to keep it light and breezy, low blows might result in the opposite of being happy. The key is to not degrade or insult their character. However, laughing along with your partner while teasing them is a get-set-go for successful relationship.

Never underestimate the power of humour. It might lead to a ‘Thank god I’m not dying alone with just a cat for company’ life.
