The first weekend of Euro 2016 had everything a football fan could ask for. Apart from the ridiculous violence that marred the England vs Russia (1-1) match, the tournament threw up all kinds of crazy, so much so that we needed to compile a list of great moments just after the first three days.
In case you haven’t been watching Euro 2016, here’s what you’ve missed. If you have been, then being reminded of them is the perfect start to a Monday.
THE FREEKICKS
Two names – Gareth Bale and Eric Dier. Both scored against Slovakia and Russia respectively. And while Bale’s Wales won, Dier’s England had to be content with a draw. There’s nothing much to write about these — just watch, and feel your jaw drop
LUKA MODRIC AND DIMITRI PAYET
The Real Madrid maestro was simply brilliant as Croatia beat Turkey. He scored with a rasping shot from 25 yards out and controlled the match from midfield in truly world-class manner: 88% passing accuracy, two chances created, five interceptions, a block and just one foul committed.
And then there was this strike from Dimitri Payet, who suddenly seems to have to life at 29-years of age. His strike gave France a vital win – but what a strike my word!
BOATENG CLEARANCE
The clearance of the century maybe. Germany’s Jerome Boateng was tumbling backwards but managed to control and smack the ball off the goal line before falling into the net. Here’s how close it was…
WOW. This is how close @FFUKRAINE came to being level! Boateng: 👏#EURO2016 #GERUKR pic.twitter.com/TTS9KcHU2O

BONUS VIEWING
Joachim Low became an internet sensation during World Cup 2014 because he picked his nose and shook hands with Cristiano Ronaldo. This time, he did something worse which we won’t describe, but would like you to see.
That’s all for today, folks.
