Even though it is one of the most natural things to do for a mother, not everyone welcomes a woman nursing her child in a public space. Unfortunately, the stigma around breastfeeding in public is huge and it makes nursing mothers so anxious, that they prefer to stay at home to feed their child periodically.

But Anna Young is an inspiration for all those women who were shamed for nursing a child in public.

Anna powerfully challenged the stigma around breastfeeding in public as she expressed milk for her five-month-old baby daughter in the middle of running a half marathon!

Anna had signed up for the half marathon in Salt Lake City even before she found out that she was pregnant. After her daughter’s birth, she was still determined to participate. But running a marathon meant her little one would have to stay without her mother’s milk. But trust a mother to find a solution for her child. And Anna made sure that her baby gets her food even when she’s running!

As she finished running the first 8 miles of a 13 mile marathon, Anna decided to express milk for her daughter.

Anna also shared a picture of herself expressing breast milk in the middle of the marathon.  She wrote that she nursed her baby before leaving the house at 4:30 in the morning for the race that was due to begin at 6:45 a.m. And pumped the milk after she finished running the first 8 miles.

This is what Anna shared on a Facebook page titled Occupy Breastfeeding:

There’s no embarrassment in nursing your child in public and Anna’s action is just a reminder of that!
