The novel, Devdas, by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was first adapted into a Hindi motion picture by Bimal Roy in 1955, starring Dilip Kumar,  Vyjayanthimala and Suchitra Sen. And, we have to admit, the film was a class apart. Be it cinematography, dialogues or performances, the movie stood the test of time.

And, in 2002, Devdas’s magic was recreated on the 70 mm screen by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Bhansali managed to recreate the charisma of the movie and it became India’s official entry at the Cannes Film Festival that year.

Even though the movie was replete with iconic scenes and dialogues, it were the performances that really stood out. After the movie, Dev, Paro, Chandramukhi, Chunni Babu and Sumitra became household names.

It’s been 14 years since the release of the movie and it still remains as fresh as it was when it released. Here are some of the most iconic dialogues from the movie:

14 years on, the dialogues are still fresh in our mind!
