Before today, my knowledge of American plumbers was limited to Mike Delfino from Desperate Housewives (apart from maybe some ‘incognito mode’ web-browsing, of course).

This guy.

Poptower

But late last month, Mike Delfino was dethroned from the title of America’s favourite plumber. The new king is Jimmie Cox (no, that’s not a stage name). Why? Read on.

According to WFAA, sometime around the last week of August, Granbury, Texas resident Andrea Adams called for a plumber to fix a pipe leakage in her front yard. Jimmie Cox answered the call. When Andrea stepped outside to check how the work was going, she saw Jimmy half submerged in muddy water trying to fix the problem. Yes, some people do go the extra mile to get the job done. She immediately clicked this picture.

And because it’s 2016, it went viral. The story just blew up. Here’s what Andrea had to say –

I’ve shut down my Facebook, turned off my email. I had a call from a lawyer in Atlanta that wanted to use the photo.

One of the reasons why it went viral could be Mike Rowe, known as the host of the Discovery Channel show Dirty Jobs, sharing this post.

While Rowe offered to buy Jimmie Cox a beer for his hard work, clothing brand Wrangler chipped in on the comments section with a lifetime supply of jeans for the deserving plumber.

Even the renowned Erin Brockovich was all praises for Cox.

Here’s more about the story –

Just like all over the world, the plight of the working man is a common one. If you really think of it, the picture showing Cox’s dedication to his job was bound to go viral. It just resonates with working class America in a way most other stories can’t.

Good on you, Jimmie Cox. We hope your virality brings you more business.
