You know how we all go ‘hello’ at the sight of a pupper? Or how it’s therapeutic to have a heart-to-heart with your pet after a long day? Well, guess what, this could paw-ssibly be a sign of intelligence. Say whaaa?
According to a study, if you have a tendency to talk to your pet, then it’s a sign of intelligence. The process of establishing a communication with your pet is known as anthropomorphising, where you project human tendencies on an object or an animal.
Anthropomofo what now?

This tendency to anthropomorphise is what separates humans from other beings. It is not seen in other animals.

According to People.com, Nicholas Epley, a behavioral science professor at the University of Chicago says,
“Historically, anthropomorphising has been treated as a sign of childishness or stupidity, but it’s actually a natural byproduct of the tendency that makes humans uniquely smart on this planet.”

Apparently, establishing a conversation channel with our pets is a byproduct of having an active, intelligent social cognition. It’s like our brain is programmed to see and perceive other minds.
According to AOL.com, Nicholas says,
“We often name objects like cars, instruments, boats, and cameras — all items that we develop special relationships with and consider extensions of our own identities.”

So, cathart away with your furry friends. Don’t let the fear of judgement stop you. Ya, smart.
