Ask any pet parent and you will know: they aren’t just ‘pets’, they are an important member of the family.

Adopting a dog is a big step in life, and once you make that commitment, there is no turning back. You are just as much a part of your pupper’s life as they are of yours. This Humans of Bombay post about a couple of pet-parents is a shining example of how a big part of your lives are shared with your pets.

Speaking to HoB, the couple share the first time they laid eyes on Loko, how sure they were about her.

Among all of the puppies she was the weakest and tiniest one. She was tucked away in a corner but had the most innocent eyes. When we saw her, we knew she was the one for us — and decided to get her home.

Of course, bringing in a new member of the family is a exciting time for everyone involved, and one can go out of their way to make things the easiest for everyone to adjust.

She was so scared, for the first few weeks she would refuse to leave my side. She’d sleep right next to me, or sometimes even on top of me. She just needed to be cuddled all the time!

The couple had their difference about this too; the hubby wanted to keep showering her with loves and cuddles, while the wife tried her best to discipline Loko. Loko has since then come out of her shell and started to enjoy life with her parents, especially on their days to the beach, where she runs around freely, bringing joy to everyone in the family.

Now, the couple are ready to welcome their second child – this time a human one.

Lucy is our first child, and a really special one. Now we’re pregnant with our second child, and can’t wait for Lucy to have a sibling to play with!

“We always wanted to adopt a dog, so when our friend’s dog gave birth to a litter and put them up for adoption, we rushed to her house! That’s where we saw Loko for the first time — among all of the puppies she was the weakest and tiniest one. She was tucked away in a corner but had the most innocent eyes. When we saw her, we knew she was the one for us — and decided to get her home. She was so scared, for the first few weeks she would refuse to leave my side. She’d sleep right next to me, or sometimes even on top of me. She just needed to be cuddled all the time! I remember how I’d feel so bad for her and keep spoiling her with treats, while my wife would keep trying to discipline her. But Loko is very smart, she would give both of us equal love and attention! It’s been almost a year since she has been with us, and the best part is coming with her to the beach everyday! She runs freely, without a leash, and the pure joy she has when we come here, just makes our day! Loko is our first child, and a really special one. Now we’re pregnant with our second child, and can’t wait for Loko to have a sibling to play with!”
