A 56-year-old colonel of the Indian Army was arrested on Wednesday on charges of raping the daughter of a junior colleague in Shimla, police said, reported news agency PTI.

The 21-year-old woman’s father is a lieutenant colonel at the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) in Himachal Pradesh.

According to India Today, a friend of the colonel is also accused of raping the woman. He is yet to be arrested. The Times of India also reported that it was a case of gang-rape

The survivor also alleged that the colonel threatened to ruin her father’s career if she spoke about the crime to anyone, reported The Times of India.

The victim was allegedly raped at the colonel’s residence on Monday. She filed a complaint on the same day, PTI reported.

The lieutenant colonel took his daughter to the Sadar Police station, where he said that she had been raped. The woman was unconscious at that time. Police took her to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Regional Hospital, where she gained consciousness. She also accused the colonel of raping her, reported Hindustan Times.

Superintendent of Police Soumya Sambasivan has confirmed the complaint and the colonel’s arrest, but refused to reveal his identity, according to PTI.

According to reports, police say that the statement of the woman was recorded and a medical examination was carried out. The colonel may be produced in court today.
