Hookups have become all too common for people today. Whether it is a drunken encounter, the result of a right swipe or a friends-with-benefit situation, people are indulging in casual sex like never before.
Now the society aunties might look on, in shock, especially when we do the walk of shame, but if the sex is good, there are no regrets. And, well, we are not the only ones saying that, science is too!
While many people believed that a random sexual encounter can leave you with low self esteem, a study by researchers from NYU and Cornell University says this isn't true. The study involved 371 undergraduate students, who were surveyed periodically on their sex lives over a period of nine months.
The study, published in Social Psychological and Personality Science, says that sociosexually unrestricted students reported higher well-being after indulging in casual sex.
The results of the study also showed that a person's stress levels dropped and overall emotional health improved after indulging in casual sex.
And unlike former studies, there were no notable difference in the behavior between genders i.e. women liked it just as much as men did.
Thus, consensual, casual sex is actually healthy for you, physically and emotionally. Of course, being safe and taking precaution is necessary.
But now that science has also given a nod, don't think too much and just do it!
