A woman in China was diagnosed with a rare ear condition that has left her unable to hear deeper sounds, particularly that of men.
The patient, Ms.Chen woke up one morning, only to find out that she could not hear her boyfriend.
After going to bed with nausea and ringing in her ears, Chen woke up unable to hear low frequency sounds.
After rushing to the hospital the doctors worked on the symptoms which were unlike those of the usual forms of hearing loss.
A specialist diagnosed her with a condition which is called, 'reverse-slope hearing loss', in which she could only hear high frequencies.
Since women usually have a high pitched voice than men (low pitched voice), she could just hear just women.
Reverse-sloping hearing loss is a form of sensorineural hearing loss.
Reports state she was able to hear every word of the ENT doctor, Dr Lin Xiaoqing, who treated Ms Chen.
The doctor, Dr Xiaoqing said,
"She was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn't hear him at all."
The doctor also said,
"It was possible that stress may have contributed to the condition."
Though, said to be genetic, possible stress factors that could have played a part, like staying up late at night and not giving body enough rest.
The rarity of this condition is such that only about one in nearly 13,000 patients suffer from reverse-slope hearing loss.
